Fightworld MMA 20 Recap & Results

The Fit NHB Martial Arts Complex in Albuquerque, New Mexico hosts Fightworld MMA 20. The 12-fight card is topped by The Duke City’s own Hondo Gutierrez and Juwan Williams-Smith from the Great Lake State battling for the Fightworld amateur Flyweight championship.

The night got started with Robert Skorheim got the event going taking down Evan Perez securing the win by rear naked choke. Arturo Grandados followed it up knocking down Ryan Wilkirson early in the second hammer-fisting his way to a win. On the strength of forward pressure, a big overhand right and late takedown Francisco Romero beat Rymundo Silva. Two close exiting rounds has everyone in anticipation of a third round till RayAngelo Montoya unfortunately threw up giving Iyean Varela a second round TKO win. David Hundson put in a complete three round mixing up his striking and wrestling putting a pace on Alfredo Alvara he just came up short of matching. Nailed with a right-hand Thomas Bui answered by getting Giovanni Rosada to the ground taking his back and taking home a rear naked choke. Ray Vaiza would miss on the first try but a second jumping knee would land flush knocking out Prudencio Hurbina in under thirty second. Estevan Cereceres collected his second straight win by TKO putting Estevan Cortez on the fence letting go with right hands till Cortez crumbled. Erick Silva weather the early storm from Andrew Alvara, unloading with hook when Alvara’s back touched the fence punching all the way to the win.

In the co-mian event Dominic Rubalcava found his distance quickly getting in an out with his combinations while Nicholas Gjelag tried to land single kicks. Rubalcava took the second round after stunning Gjelag with left straights. Gjelag Down two rounds took Rubalcava down advanced to mount and pounded his way to a finish with ten second left in the fight.

In the main event Hondo Gutierrez immediately battled into the clinch getting double underhook sending Juwan Williams-Smith for a ride. While trying to establish position Gutierrez sunk in a deep armbar gong belly down. Williams-Smith amazingly jumped over to relieve the pressure. Trying to hammer-fist his arm free. Gutierrez would transition to a triangle back to the armbar as Williams-Smith continued to escape danger. Back to his feet but unable to escape the Gutierrez grasp. The fight would return to the mat from knee on belly to full mount Gutierrez’s would rain down strikes till the ref jumped in for the first round technical knockout.

  • Welterweight Bout: Ray Vaiza (4-6) def. Prudencio  Hurbina by KO (flying knee) 0:27 R1 
  • Bantamweight Bout: Thomas Bui (1-0) def. Giovanni Rosado (0-2) by submission (rear naked choke) 2:30 R2 
  • Flyweight Bout: David Hudson (3-3) def. Alfredo Alvarado (0-1) unanimous decision
