UFC 276 Results, Champions Separate themselves further from the Pack

The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada hosts UFC 276. The event is the grand finally to the UFC’s International Fight Week.

The twelve fight card is topped by a championship double header. In the main event Israel Adesanya looks to defend the UFC Middleweight championship for a fifth time against number two ranked contender Jared Cannonier. Cannonier has won five of his six fights at 185 lbs., four of them by knockout.

The co-main event is a trilogy bout for the UFC Featherweight championship. At UFC 245 Volkanovski ended Holloway’s reign as champion. The decision again went in the Australian fighters favor in at UFC251. Both have won their last two fights setting up this third meeting.

Recap:

Israel Adesanya was never forced to come out of first gear in his battle with Jared Cannonier. Two judges gave Cannonier the third round after putting the champion on the fence for an extended period of time.  Israel kept his composure picking apart Cannonier with his jab and low kicks. The highly anticipated third meeting for the UFC featherweight title between Alexander Volkanovski & Max Holloway proved to be the most decisive of the three. An overhand right from the champion cut the challenger on his left eyebrow. A steady stream of blood would flow for the rest of the fight. A steady diet of jabs and low kicks denied Holloway long distance success.  In close range Volkanovski would clinch up delivering slashing elbows. The end result was a clean sweep of the cards. Alex Pereira is clearly the next challenger for Israel Adesanya after knocking down Sean Strickland with a left hook. Then finishing the fight with a straight right for the TKO. The speed, volume, and pace of Bryan Barberena would be to much for Robbie Lawler as the Arizona fighter would stop the former champion knocking him out on his feet. A ring finger into the eye from Sean O’Malley would lead to his fight with Sean O’Malley being a No Contest.  Jalin Turner stuck Brad Ridell with a right cross and jumped on a guillotine for the finish. Jim Miller won for a record 24th time in the octagon catching Donald Cerrone off balance and jumping on a guillotine choke. Ian Garry should off his footwork, distance management,  and counter striking in beating Gabe Green by decision.  Striking in combination turned out to be the key for Dricus Du Plessi in taking a decision over Brad Tavares.  Andre Muniz showed his grappling superiority putting Urijah Hall on the mat in every round.  Maycee Barber kept her battle with Jessica Eye in the clinch firing off brutal knees & elbows. Julija Stoliarenko got the night going by submitting Jessica Rose-Clark for her 9th win by armbar.
