Bantamweight Grand Prix semifinals set for December

Bellator 289 is expected to the clarity of who’ll be fighting for the Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix Championship & the million dollar check.

In the main event interim Bantamweight champion Raufeon Stots (18-1) faces tournament alternate Danny Sabatello (13-1). Both fighter had collegian careers as wrestlers before transitioning to MMA. Stots put an exclamation mark to his ten-fight win streak at Bellator 279 knocking Juan Archuleta with a head kick to claim the interim Bantamweight title. Injuries to Champion Sergio Pettis and James Gallagher gave the opening for Sabatello to enter the tournament. Sabatello earned his spot with a dominate decision win over Jornel Lugo. “The Italian Gangster” advanced to the semifinals after grinding up Leandro Higo.

The other semifinal will see former KOTC champion Patchy “No Love” Mix (16-1) against former ACB champion Magomed Magomedov (19-2). Mix won his third straight in the quarterfinals defeating former Bellator champion Kyoji Haraguchi by unanimous decision. Magomedov submitted alternate Enrique Barzola with a guillotine choke in the fourth round to make his way to the semifinals.
