Championship Double Header set as LFA Returns to Brazil
Legacy Fighting Alliance’s first 2023 trip to Brazil will feature a championship double header.
The promotions third event of January will be LFA 151. The main event will be the finals of the LFA Featherweight title tournament as rugged striker José Delano battles unbeaten BJJ black belt Gabriel Santos. And in the co-main event Julia “The Dragon” Polastri and “Arenita” Brenda Gottig battle for the vacant LFA women’s Strawweight championship.
Jose Delano went from being scheduled to open the card at LFA 126 to stepping into the main event for his promotional debut. That night, like at LFA 133 where he beat Michael Stack, Delano walked away as the winner by unanimous decision. But both fights were scheduled title fights that Delano missed weight for. The wins did earn Delano his spot in the LFA Featherweight title tournament. In the semifinals Delano successfully made weight and showed the best version of himself knocking out Jair Jesuino with a knee. Twenty-six-year-old Gabriel Santos earned his way into the tournament after beating Elvis Silva for the Future MMA title, one of the most prestigious belts on the Brazilian MMA circuit. In the semifinals, his promotional debut, “Mosquitinho” came in at championship weight and made statement stopping Marcio Barbosa with a head kick early in the second round.
The co-main event reignites one of South America’s greatest sports rivalries as Brazil faces Argentina. Julia Polastri is a 24-year-old from Brazil who fought on the Contender Series in 2021. “The Dragon” has won her last two fights including scoring her fourth win by knockout defeating Bianca Sattelmayer at LFA 146. Brenda Gottig is a 31-year-old from Argentina who has finishes in five of her six wins. “Arenita” has scored four of her five stoppage wins by knockout. The winner will be the promotions fifth Women’s Strawweight champion joining a list that includes Vanessa Demopoulos, Lupita Godinez, Piera Rodriguez, and Jaqueline Amorim.
