Farias vs. Sweeney headlines LFA 150
Legacy Fighting Alliance has announced they’ll be returning to the “Gopher State” for the 17th time in January for the promotions sesquicentennial event. The main event will be a bantamweight showdown pitting BJJ against Karate.
LFA 150 takes place at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel on January 13th. The headliner will see seven-time BJJ world champion Ary Farias squaring off with Karate black belt John Sweeney.
Ary Farias credentials on the mat easily make him one of the most decorated BJJ practitioners to compete in MMA. During his influential years “AstroBoy” spent five of them training alongside UFC vet “Jacare”. Since transitioning to MMA, the native of Manaus has secured five wins by rear naked choke. In August Farias picked up the biggest win of his career defeating UFC vet Michinori Tanaka by split decision.
John Sweeney is a Karate black belt with five wins by knockout. The protegee of top ten ranked UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson, “Hollywood” is considered to have the same dynamic striking as hie mentor. As he heads into his third fight with the LFA Sweeney has also fought for XMMA & Combate Global. In his last two fights Sweeney has defeated UFC vet Cole Smith and Ricardo Dias both by decision.
