Top Ten Women’s Flyweight showdown headlines UFC Fight Night in Colorado

The UFC is returning to the Mile High city for a Fight Night is mid July that could produce the next challenger for the UFC Women’s Flyweight title.

Officially the event is yet to be announced but it’s being widely reported. The initial report coming from mma media member Ariel Helwani. The main event is expected to see number 4 ranked Maycee Barber against former champion Women’s Strawweight Rose Namajunas.

Barber (14-2) is a Colorado native currently riding a six-fight win streak. The Team Alpha fighter is coming off a decision win over former title challenger Katlyn Chookgian which proceeded wins over contenders Amanda Ribas & Andrea Lee. This will be Barbers first booking for five-rounds in the UFC.

Namajunas (12-6) comes in as the number 6 ranked contender after two fights at 125 lbs. The Wisconsin born Colorado resident had a rough introduction to the division dropping a decision to number two ranked contender Manon Fiorot. “Thug Rose” evened her record in the weight class taking a five round decision win over Amanda Ribas in her last outing.

Denver is the birthplace of the UFC where the original tournament was held in 1993. The home of the defending NBA champion Nuggets also hosted the 25th anniversary event where Yair Rodriguez knocked out Chan Sung Jung by inverted elbow at the buzzer.
