Middleweight Title Fight Headlines UFC 305

The long awaited championship battle between bitter rivals has been announced for UFC 305 in August.

UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus Du Plessis will defend his title for the first time against former champion Israel Adesanya.

UFC 305 is set for August 17th at the RCA arena in Western Australia.

Du Plessis (21-2) won the UFC Middleweight crown in January by split decision over Sean Strickland. The win was the 8th in a row and 6th straight in the UFC for the South African fighter.

Adesanya (24-3) has been inactive since losing the Middleweight to Sean Strickland this past September. A fight prior “The Last Style Bender” had vanquished the demon of Alex Pereira defeating his kickboxing nemesis for the first time in four fights to regain the title Pereira had taken from him.

Intrigue has surrounded a Du Plessis vs Adesanya matchup since the Nigerian born Adesanya had held the title. Back Du Plessis was campaigning for a title shot by getting under Adesanya’s skin. Adesanya a Middleweight champion, Kamaru Usman Welterweight, and Francis N’Gannou Heavyweight, three was three kings from Africa. A statement Du Plessis went against because none of the three were residing in Africa at time. Almost antagonizing Adesanya for a fight to see who is more African.
