Nurmagomedov vs Shabliy rebooked for September
Bellator is bringing in a Lightweight title fight when they return to SoCal in the fall.
September 7th the Bellator Championship Series will be at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.
In the main event Bellator Lightweight Champion Usman Nurmagomedov defends against Alexander Shabliy. The bout had been scheduled for May in Paris but was postponed due to Nurmagomedov being injured.
Prior to the PFL acquiring Bellator MMA the promotion was in the mist of a Lightweight Grand Prix. Shabily (24-3) scored a TKO of Tofiq Musayev in the quarterfinals and a unanimous decision over Patricky Freire in the semifinals. Nurmagomedov (17-0) submitted BenSon Henderson in the quarterfinals, but has his semifinal win over Brent Primus changed to a no contest after failing his PED screening.
The fight has easily been a long time in the making but will not be the finals of the never concluded Bellator Lightweight Grand Prix.
