
Featherweight Title Main Event set for UFC 308
While the Ultimate Fighting Championship was in Abu Dhabi for UFC Fight Night “Sandhagen vs. Nuramgomedov” plans were revealed for the company’s return to the country in October for UFC 308.
The UFC Featherweight championship will be on the line in the main event on October 26th as Ilia Topuria defends for the first time against former champion and current BMF, Max “Blessed” Halloway. Topuria took the world title from long-time champion Alexander Volkanovski by second round knockout at UFC 298. At UFC 300 Holloway had a dominant effort against Justin Gaethje capped by a dramatic last second knockout.
The co-main event will see the former Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker against Khamzat Chimaev. The fight was rescheduled form June when Chimaev was forced to withdraw due to illness. Whittaker remained on the card knocking out Ikram Aliskerov in under two minutes.
In Heavyweight action former interim champion Ciryl Gane will rematch former Bellator champion Alexander Volkov in a meeting between number two and three in the division. Gane won the first meeting in 2021 by unanimous decision.
At Light-Heavyweight number two ranked Magomed Ankalaev faces number five ranked contender Aleksander Rakic. At Featherweight unbeaten number eleven Lerone Murphy will take on number fourteen Dan “50K” Ige. Former Lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos is returning to Welterweight for a bout with number ten Geoff “Handz of Steel” Neal.
In non-ranked bouts Rinat Fakhretdinov faces Nursulton Ruziboev at Welterweight and Kennedy Nzechukwu moves up to Heavyweight to meet Marcos Rogerio de Lima.
