Spivac Submits Tybura evens score and Hurdles in Rankings

Whne the Heavyweights get going fights can end in a blink of an eye and the UFC Vegas was no different ending inside the first two minutes.

Serghei Spivac secured his second main event win by submission forcing Marcin Tybura to verbally submit to an armbar the main event. Spivac quickly got inside on Tybura and around his waist dragging him to the ground. Spivac’s attempt to take the back saw Tybura transition in the guard. Spivac throw up his legs and took the arm for his 8th submission win. The result of the fight should see the two switch spots in the ranking as Spivac came in ranked nine and Tybura 8 in the UFC Heavyweight division.

Chepe Mariscal is now on a seven-fight win streak after a dominate decision win over Damon Jackson in the co-main. The fight had a frantic pace with constant reversals and transitions. Mariscal’s left hooks in the clinch making a difference only. As Mariscal continued to zap the Jackson gas tank it opened the gates for a flood of remorseless ground strikes.

Danny Barlow came out on the satisfied end of a split decision with Nikolay Veretennikov. Barlow improves to 2-0 in UFC thanks in part to finding his range early and putting out volume. Low kicks and straight punches maximizing his five-inch reach advantage. Veretennikov did his best work in the final round as hooks and overhands push Barlow back.

Quan Le came out strong making his UFC debut on short notice against Chris Guttierez who doesn’t sit too far outside the rankings. Le found success in the first by getting on top and even had the back in the second, but on the feet, Gutierrez did the damage with his jab and low kicks. Guttierez pulling away in the 3rd round piling up the offense even adding in his right hand. The decision gives “El Guapo” wins in two of his last three fights.

Former title challenger Yana Santos avoided a fourth loss in a row taking a unanimous decision over Chelsea Chandler, who missed weight by 5 lbs. Santos dictated much of the fight with her speed advantage landing and existing before Chandler could find a home for her counters. In the second round Santos even sat down Chandler with a right hand. Santos using her teap and sidekicks like jabs keeping Chandler at distance.

Toshiomi Kazama made his game plan clear right away to take Charlampos Grigoriou down and get on his back. That’s where Kazama ended the first round. Knocked to the ground in the second Kazama endured some big elbows before pulling out a triangle choke for his sixth submission win.

In Women’s Bantamweight action Karol Rosa defeated Pannie Kianzad by unanimous decision in the featured prelim. Rosa was all about forward pressure and chopping low kicks early. A combination of the Rosa’s straight punches and work in the clinch, including spinning elbows, left Kinanzad wearing a crimson mask by the end of third round.

Brazilian Kickboxer Jhonata Diniz remained unbeaten taking a unanimous decision win over American Karl Williams. Diniz’s powerful right hands having Williams hurt in the first and made him reluctant to pressure. Halfway through the third Williams mounted a comeback scorng his first takedown and while he tried to finish the fight, they made it to the judge’s cards giving Dinizg his second win since bring signed off the Contender Series.

Youssef Zalal made it 2-0 in his second stint with the UFC after ea4rning his third consecutive submission win. Zalal put Jarnon Errens on his back with a high crotch single leg. Errens gave his back in standing up Zalal slipped in a body triangle and forced the tap with the rear naked choke across not under the jaw, a tap from pain more than about to sleep.

The card opened with a rematch from the contender series as Stephanie Luciano & Talita Alencar look for a conclusion from what was a draw last September. This time around it was all Luciano nullifying Alencar’s takedown attempts and keeping the fight standing. Luciano stayed loong and kept Alencar on the outside peppering away with combinations of straight punches.
