Blas Retains at BKFC 66, Continues Stream of 1st Round Finishes

The first defense is on the board and the question is who can last a round with Alberto Blas. Ryan Reber, a slick boxer came in 6-0 in the sport and was unable to touch the champ. Blas sent Reber back with the first left he touched with. A sign of what was to come. The first knockdown from a quick combination came just seconds later. Reber was visibly shook and Blas went right for the kill with a lighting fast jab right cross putting Reber down for a second and final time. Blas cementing himself as the king of the Bantamweights with his sixth first round finish in six fights.

The next challenger for Blas may have been decided earlier in the night as Justin Ibarrola equaled the champion with his sixth consecutive win in BKFC. Ibarrola’s streak of knockouts ended going the distance with Justin Street in a defense first chess match. The jab-cross combinations of Ibarrola wearing down Street and piling up the dame to his nose for a decisive decision win.

Former Featherweight title challenger Howard Davis made a statement as he went to 2-0 at 155 lbs. A motivated Davis looked crisp from the start pivoting and throwing hard counter.  Davis put on the canvas three times in the first round.  The first came from a counter right hook, the second an aggressive wild overhand right, and the third a short right cross for the finish. Davis is now the second the second hottest name in the Lightweight division next to Jeremy Stephens.

Cuban Heavyweight Leonardo Perdomo continues to leave destruction in his rear-view mirror after his 5th consecutive first round finish. Steve Banks’ only loss in the sport coming in was to the current champion Mick Terrill. That fight was stopped after the 2nd due to a cut. Perdomo Stopped Banks in 44 seconds. Perdomo used a left hook to the body to open up the head and landed a overhand right for the first knockdown. Seeing blood in the water Perdomo flurried with a right straight and multiple left hooks for the finish. The number four ranked contender is primed for a title eliminator.

Armando Rodriguez made a successful debut in the sport knocking down Dameko Labon in the first round with a straight right. While Dameko Labon had a strong close to the first round a fully closed left eye stopped the bout before the second round began.

Stephen Townsel pulled off a big upset stopping number four ranked Cruiserweight Jeremy Smith. This was Smith’s first fight in a year and a half, Townsel had lost his last two. On the surface a nice a nice tune-up.  That was not the case as Townsel’s open stance and low hanging hands made target practice out of Smith who had a high guard with his hands stuck to his head. The accumulation of Townsel’s right hands closing Smith’s left eye for the fourth-round finish.

Leonel Carrera picked up his second win in BKFC jabbing his way to a split decision against Sean Hotusing. Stalky power puncher Peter Peraza stopped Raymond Pell with a pair of straight rights in the left ear. Joseph White came back from being knocked down in the first round to stop Kendrick Miree in the fourth round. A big right hand from white had Miree walkway from the ref. Jim Pulgar got his first BKFC win defeating nine -fight vet Joshua Alvarez by decision on the strength of knockdowns in the second, third, and fourth rounds. The great night for Cuba got started by Julio Perez knocking Devonte Jeffery out with a left hook in just 13 seconds. And Almat Jumanov got the violence going by stopping Rayne Wells with a left uppercut in the clinch.

The 12-fight card produces 9-knockouts.
