New Champion own Noche UFC with Wrestling
Wrestling has been considered MMA most dominant art and that remains true.
Merab Dvalishvili is now the 7th Bantamweight champion in UFC history. Midway through the first round Dvalishvili figured out his entry. Six takedowns and tens minutes of control time made it impossible for O’Malley to generate a rhythm. Landing more than four times as many strikes and threatening chokes every time he saw neck kept the now former champion defensive. A knee injury the third will have Dvalishvili needing a nose job and teap kicks in the final round started a comeback “Suga” couldn’t complete. A decisive victory to take the Bantamweight throne and his 11th consecutive victory .
Valentina Shevchenko is once again the UFC Wonen’ Flyweight Champion after wrestling the title away from Alex Grasso. Shevchenko fended off armbars and triangles while using eight takedowns to rack up over fourteen minutes of control time. Shevchenko makes history as the first two-time Women’s Flyweight champion. And one has to wonder if the UFC will end this saga at a draw and one win for each competitor.
Diego Lopes has put himself in the title conversation after a unanimous decision over former title challenger Brian Ortega. Lopes had a big first round knocking Ortega down early in the first with a right hook. In the third Lopes put an exclamation point on his performance knocking Ortega down done with a left hook. We still have a few months left in the year but Diego Lopes will definitely get 2024 fighter of the year consideration.
Esteban Ribovics out lasted Daniel Zellhuber for a razor thin split decision. Zellhuber separated himself at the end of a close first. Ribovics worked his way back into the fight in a close seconds where both strikers had their moments.
