
The UFC Welterweight Division has a Nightmare to Deal With
Carlos Prates capped off a stoppage filled UFC Vegas 100 by putting Magny out cold in the first round.
The rising Welterweight contender fended off Neil Magny’s attempts to put him on his back. With each failed takedown Prates confidence visually grown. The Brazilian took charge stalking down his American foe. A short right hook sitting down a charging in Magny. Prates wisely brought Magny back to his feet, finding a laser left hand grazing the temple putting Magny out cold.
A fourth consecutive first round knockout for “The Nightmare” has him looking to move up the rankings. Prates told the apex crowd he’d like to fight at UFC 312, scheduled for February in Australia, and well as mentioned Jack Della Maddelena & Geoff Neal as potential opponents.
The middleweight division has another bonified contender. Former two division One champion Reinier de Ridder made a successful octagon debut. RDR made a statement to end the first round knocking down Gerald Meerschaert with long left hook. After several scramble filled exchanges on the mat de Ridder secured top position sinching in an arm triangle for his 13th submission win.
Gaston Bolanos is back in the win column, taking a unanimous decision win over Cortavious Romious. Bolanos showcased a sharp right hand and is trademark elbows. The biggest growth in his game was displayed in how comfortable Bolanos was once taken down, his ability to calmly problem solve was a change from earlier outings.
Gilian Robertson is now on a three-fight win streak after defeating Luana Pinheiro by unanimous decision. Robertson now 4-1 at 115 lbs. has found her weight class. Her mix of relentless mix of wrestling and constantly looking for the finish overwhelmed and out worked Pinheiro at the beginning and end of the fight.
The debuting Mansur Abdul-Malik made the most of a showcase opportunity stopping Dusko Todorovic in under three minutes. Abdul-Malik put Todorovic on the ground with killer knee and got the stoppage with massive ground strikes.
In the featured prelim Denise Gomes made it two straight decision wins. The younger Gomes was able to make use of her strength & speed advantages over Karolina Kowalkiewicz landing the sharper strikes and put her Polish foe on the fence to build a lead in the first two rounds that a furious comeback couldn’t overcome.
Elizeu Zaleski Dos Santos dispatched short notice replacement Zach Scroggin in short order. The Brazilian got Scroggin’s attention with a hard calf kick. This gave “EZDS” the opportunity to land a crushing overhand right. Dos Santos jumped on Scroggin punching his way to a 15th career win by knockout.
It took less then a minute for Charels Radtke to stop Matthew Semelsberger. The power punches got right to exchanging big punches in the pocket. A Radtke left hook clean on the jaw started the downfall for Semelsberger. Seeing Semelsberger hurt Radtke flurried a second left hook finishing the job.
Da’Mon Blackshear halted a two-fight skid submitting Cody Stamman. A jump knee followed by a five-punch combination had Stamman shooting for a takedown. In the scramble Blackshear wrapped up Stamman’s neck. A resilient effort to escape a mounted guillotine. Blackshear quickly on to the next attack took the back and with a few adjustments secured his fourth win by rear naked choke.
The start of four straight first round finishes was Tresean Gore’s submission of Antonio Trocoli. Trocoli was determined to get the fight on the fight but left his neck open. After a two-year absence due to injury Gore makes it consecutive win by guillotine choke. Melissa Mullins collected her first finish inside the octagon taking Klaudia Sygula to the ground and finishing with ground and pound in the second round.
