Middleweight Title Rematch & Long Awaited Strawweight title fight set for UFC 312

When the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Australia in February they’ll do so with a championship double header at the top of the card.

In the main event Dricus du Plessis will defend the UFC Middleweight championship against the man he took the title from by row split decision at UFC 297, Sean Strickland.

Du Plessis is unbeaten in eight trips into the octagon. The steady rise to the top for the South African included submitting former title challenger Darren Till at UFC 282. The next step came at UFC 285 where Derek Brunson was to worn down to get off the stool for the third round. The step to title challenger came when du Plessis stopped Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 leading to the first meeting with Strickland. The rematch will come on the heels of “DDP” submitting bitter rival Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.

At UFC 293 Sean Strickland out worked Israel Adesanya to take calm of the Middleweight. A fight after losing the title to du Plessis, Strickland got back in the win column with a vintage performance that got a decision win over Paulo Costa. Setting up what many feel is a much need rematch.

The other title fight on the card will see Zhang Weili defending her UFC Women’s Strawweight championship against Tatiana Suarez. So far during her second reign as Champion Weili has beaten both Amanda Lemos & Xiaonan Yan by decision. Many have long awaited the day that Taitana Suarez would get a title shot. The unbeaten TUF 23 winner ‘s resume includes submissions over former champions Alex Grasso & Jessica Andrade as well as a TKO of Carla Esparza.

UFC 213 is set for February 8th at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney Australia.
