Bellator is Gone & there’s A New PFL

It’s not a complete overhaul of the company but there’s not much recognizable left either.

The PFL had already announced that the Bellator Champions Series had been renamed the Road to Dubai. While next Saturday’s Road to Dubai event is headlined by a Bellator Lightweight title fight the brand is gone and the worth of that title fight is unknown.

The Bellator portion of the PFL portfolio isn’t the only element of the promotion undergoing change.

The PFL Global season format is also gone. No longer will it be ten-fighters in six-divisions going through a regular season and playoffs for a million dollars.

Instead there will be eight division women’s flyweight, Men’s Bantamweight, Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight, Light Heavyweight, & Heavyweight. Each division will have eight fighters in a single eliminator tournament for 500K, half of the season tournament grand prize had been.

The PFL will start there new format with four events in April hosting the quarterfinals. Three events in June will host the semifinals. The finals will be staged over three events in August.

PFL has also announced they have released Bellator winningest fighter multi time featherweight champion Patricio Freire.
