UFC 311 main event changes at the last minute

The main event for the first UFC pay per view of the year has undergone a major change.

Lightweight title challenger Arman Tsarukyan has unfortunately suffered a back injury that will force him out of UFC 311.

The UFC has announced the Lightweight Championship will still be on the line in the nights main event with Islam Makhachev now defending against number 10 ranked Renato Moicano.

Wide spread reports are indicating that Tsarkyan, who’s on a four fight win streak suffered the injury while cutting weight.

Tsarkyan posted on instagram “I “I regret to inform everyone that the news is that I had to pull out of UFC 311 with a back injury is true. This was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my fighting career. I would like to thank the UFC for understanding and I look forward to competing for my first UFC championship in the future. Thank you all for your support [heart emoji]”

Dagestan’s Makhachev will now look to secure his fourth consecutive successful title defense against Brazil’s Moicano. The fighter nicknamed four “Money” has been on tear having won his last four fights. The 35-year had been scheduled for a main showdown with Beniel Daruish at UFC 311 before being elevated up the card.

UFC 311 takes place on Saturday night from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
