Submission filled Launch for UFC BJJ

Seven of the eight matches at UFC BJJ 1 ended the way you wanted by submission including all-three title bouts.

The first Jiu Jitsu athlete signed to the UFC, quite the distinction and expectations to live up to, Mikey Musumeci performed as advertised his first time on the brand new stage. Musumeci went right into playing off his back pulling Rerisson Gabriel into a wood chipper of constant leg lock attempts. For the first two rounds Musumeci mainly focused on Gabriel’s right leg. In the third Musumeci switched to the left leg securing the heel hook just over a minute into the period after having rolled across the pit battling for the hold. The first athlete signed is the first UFC BJJ Flyweight champion.

Andrew Tackett wasted no time bulling over Andy Varela. Attempting to escape Tackett took Varela’s maintained through a gator roll and quickly locked up a modified arm in rear naked choke for the first round finish. The number one seed Andrew Tackett runs through the tournament to become the inaugural UFC BJJ Welterweight champion. Tackett’s celebration was join by Renato Canuto who congratulated and challenged the just crowned champion.

Carlos Henrique had top control over Danilo Moreira most of the first two rounds. While Moreira was on bttom he searched for legs to no success. In the thrid Henrique secured hisplace in the history books. Henrique attacked Moreira’s left leg and arm taking the armbar to become the first UFC BJJ Lightweight champion.

A slick back take saw Keith Krikorian submit Joao Assonitis in the second round with a no hooks in face crush while on the back.

Brazilian phenom Cassio Moura defeated Talita Alencar by unanimous decision in the first match to reach the judges. Moura dominated taking the back in the first and forcing Alencar into playing defense the whole match.

Pedro Machado turned Filipe Pimentel’s guillotine attempt into the opening Machado needed to advance to mount and secure a triangle choke for the second round submission.

Daughter of former UFC Heavyweight cha pio. Bella Mir, showed her wrestling chops taking the top position quickly. Mir had two arm triangle attempts in the first. Mir would strike paydirt in the second transitioning from a front headlock into a D’Arce forcingCarol Joia to submit Carol Joia.

The process of getting the opening bout between Ty Costlow & Kevin Carrasco to the ground took awhile but once they did Carrasco wasted little time securing a triangle choke forcing Costlow to tap inside the last 30 seconds of the first round.
