The Redneck handles hometown hero leaving Duke City silent. There was no electrical finish in the main event, BKFC World Middle Weight Championship, as David “Redneck” Mundell won his bout by unanimous decision (49-43 49-43 and 50-42) over local challenger, Albuquerque’s very own Donald Sanchez. Mundell knocked Sanchez down 2 times in the first round and starting with the second round the experienced Sanchez regained enough composure to battle it out 4 more rounds and deny Mundell his 6th straight stoppage. Sanchez however trailed the rest of the night and was unable to make a strong enough comeback

Mundell in the post game conference indicated he had gained “respect” for Sanchez for making it a 5-round battle.  Mundell is now 10-1 and Sanchez is 4-2.

In the Co-main, a cruiserweight bout, Murat “Sambeast” Kilimetov, fighting out of Albuquerque made short work of his opponent BKFC veteran Leo “Bushido” Bercier. Kilimetov was too tall and too strong for Bercier, dominating the fight quickly and landing some strong punches to Bercier.  Kilimetov capitalized on his dominance and delivered two back to back punches putting Mercer on the ropes leading to referee Nick Berens to put a stop to the bout at 1:36. The “Sambeast” advances to 3-0.

Belen’s Derek “Rage” Perez, in a featherweight bout, defeated “Slick” Rick Caruso. After knocking down Caruso a couple of times in the first 1 rounds Perez forced a stoppage just as round 3 was ending. Perez advances to 5-5 while Caruso is now 2-5.

Local talent Felipe “Flip” Chavez, a welterweight, defeated Brandon “The Downs Warrior” Honsvick by a unanimous decision. Chavez knocked down Honsvick in the first and dominated the rest of the rounds. Chavez moves to 3-1 and Honsvick falls to 1-2.

In the light-heavyweight division, William “Wild Bill” Albrecht defeated Kyle “The Irishman” McElroy also of Albuquerque by TKO after the fight doctor called the fight at the end of the second round. Albrecht is now 3-1 and McElroy drops to 2-6.

Rio Rancho’s “Irish” Bryant McClain, fighting as a middleweight, lost to Skylar Mauller out of Ohio at the :43 second mark. Using an overhand right to knock McClain down Mauller added another win.

In the knockout of the night, Floridian Bobby Henry with a right uppercut sends hometown favorite Kasey Yates to the mat in the middle of the 5th and final round. For 4 rounds Henry looked like he was trying to get his “sea legs” not sure if elevation was a factor, but Henry went down to the mat awkwardly at least four times with one of those counting as a knockdown in the 4th round. Yates for his part smelled blood in those Florida waters and was the aggressor throughout the 4.5 rounds–it was his fight to lose as he pummeled Henry and pursued Henry aggressively through the ring showering Henry with body punches and uppercuts. In the clinch Yates relentlessly hammered Henry’s body with with punishing salvos–unfortunately Henry found his seas legs and an opening to deliver the decisive blow to close out the night out with his first ever BKFC win while sending Yates back to the drawing board in the process.
