Oliveira gets new Opponent for UFC RIO

Charles Oliveira has a new opponent for the main event of UFC Fight Night in Rio de Janeiro.

An undisclosed injury has forced Rafael Fiziev to withdraw from the October 11 main event. Stepping in to headline the card is No. 8 ranked Mateusz Gamrot, who will face No. 4 ranked Oliveira in a pivotal lightweight showdown.

Oliveira (35-11) joined the UFC in 2010 at just 19 years old. Fifteen years later, the man known as “Do Bronx” has worn UFC gold and holds the record for the most submission wins in promotional history. A proven warrior, there is concern, however, that Oliveira may be returning too soon after being knocked out by Ilia Topuria at UFC 317.

Gamrot (25-3) arrived in the UFC after dominating in KSW. A split decision loss in his promotional debut didn’t deter the Polish standout, who bounced back with four straight wins, including three finishes. A decision loss to Beneil Dariush marked his second UFC setback, but the American Top Team product has since won four of his last five, including a decision victory over former champion Rafael dos Anjos.

UFC Fight Night: Rio takes place on October 11 at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
