Dyer vs. Hunt Rematch Headlines BKFC 84 After Mundell Bout Falls Through
Change of opponent: Josh Dyer will put the BKFC Light Heavyweight title on the line for the first time at BKFC 84, but it won’t be against David Mundell.
The champion-versus-champion clash was originally scheduled to headline the November 15th card in Palm Desert, California. At this point, the originally announced main event is off due to unknown Or at least unannounced circumstances.
The new main event will instead be a rematch, giving “D-Day” a chance to avenge the only loss of his bare-knuckle career. Dyer will defend his title against former champion Lorenzo “The Juggernaut” Hunt, who never lost the belt in the ring but vacated it to chase history.
Hunt earned a fifth-round TKO win over Dyer at BKFC 17 in their first meeting — the fourth victory in what became a nine-fight winning streak that included seven knockouts. During that run, “The Juggernaut” captured BKFC titles in two divisions.
Hunt has been out of action for over a year and a half following a first-round knockout loss to then-heavyweight champion Mick Terrill, as Hunt attempted to become a three-division world champion. After that bout, Hunt was suspended by the California State Athletic Commission for testing positive for a banned substance and elevated testosterone levels.
Hunt’s résumé includes five championship wins, with two successful defenses of the BKFC Light Heavyweight title.
Since their first encounter, Dyer has rebounded in impressive fashion, scoring knockout victories over Dakota Cochrane and William Albrecht to earn a title shot. His crowning moment came at BKFC 74, where he dismantled and stopped Mike Richmond in the fourth round to claim the championship.
Now, both men have a chance to settle unfinished business — with the BKFC Light Heavyweight Championship on the line.
