UFC Mexico City Results
The UFC returned south of the border, back to the thin air of Mexico City, for a Fight Night showcasing the potential future of the lighter weight divisions.
For the third consecutive year, two-time flyweight champion Brandon Moreno headlined in his home country. The No. 6-ranked “Assassin Baby” faced unranked British prospect Lone’er Kavanagh. The explosive 26-year-old from London accepted the fight on short notice, fully aware that a victory would change his life and launch him into title contention.
Coming off an uncharacteristic loss to Tatsuro Taira, Moreno had the opportunity to remind the world exactly who he is — all while feeding off the energy of a passionate home crowd.
In the co-main event, rising Mexican standout David Martinez, a fast and seasoned karate stylist viewed by many as the nation’s next big prospect, collided with heavy-handed former title challenger Marlon Vera.
Further emphasizing the night’s youth movement, six fighters were set to make their UFC debuts, five of them fresh off earning contracts on Dana White’s Contender Series — proof that Mexico City wasn’t just hosting a fight card, but serving as a launching pad for the promotion’s next wave of contenders.
