New Light Heavyweight Champion to Be Crowned at UFC 327
The UFC’s light heavyweight division has been thrown into chaos.
During a recent Instagram Live, UFC President Dana White announced that Alex Pereira is vacating the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. With the belt now up for grabs, a new king at 205 pounds will be crowned on April 11 at UFC 327.
Former champion Jiri Prochazka will square off with surging contender Carlos Ulberg in the main event, with the vacant title on the line.
The announcement adds even more firepower to an already stacked card, as UFC 327 will also feature a Flyweight Championship bout, making it a championship doubleheader.
Chaos vs. Precision
Prochazka (32-5-1), the division’s No. 2 ranked contender, returns to familiar territory with gold in his sights. The Czech fan favorite is coming off back-to-back third-round knockouts over top contenders Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr., with the latter earning “Fight of the Year” buzz for its wild momentum swings. In vintage Prochazka fashion, he threw caution to the wind and seized victory from the jaws of defeat.
His unorthodox movement, relentless pressure, and willingness to engage in firefights have made him must-see television — though that same aggression has cost him at times.
Standing across from him will be the division’s longest active win streak.
Ulberg (13-1), ranked No. 3, has quietly built one of the most impressive runs at 205 pounds. Since dropping his UFC debut, the New Zealand kickboxing standout has rattled off nine straight victories. Five of those wins have come by first-round knockout, showcasing the kind of speed and precision that has made “Black Jag” one of the most dangerous strikers in the division.
While Prochazka thrives in chaos, Ulberg operates with calculated efficiency — a fascinating stylistic clash with championship stakes.
