Jon Jones Dominates matchup between Legends

Jon Jones proves he’s the greatest ever by beating a fellow legend and making it look easy.

The performance was nearly flawless. Jon Jones attacked the legs and body of Stipe Miocic tripping the former Heavyweight champion to the ground early. From top position “Bones” would hammer away and cut Miocic open under his right eye.

Jones was content with battering Miocic on the feet for the rest of the fight. Coming up the middle with the majority of his attacks, whether it was kicks to the body or sharp jabs and crosses. Miocic now 255 lbs., came in about 20 lbs heavier than when he was regularly competing and was a notch slower than Jones in hand and foot speed. Miocic durability still exists taking a flush right cross from Jones in the second and staying vertical.  The cumulation of a methodical breakdown came in the final minute of the third round as Jones folded Miocic with a spinning back kick to the ribs.

The man with the most title defenses in UFC Light Heavyweight history just added his first notch on in the Heavyweight defense column. And while Jones was non comital about who he’d be facing next he did say he’d be negotiating with UFC brass.

Forty-two year old Stipe Miocic did announce his this would be his final fight and he’s heading into retirement. Most likely the next time we’ll see Miocic the most decorated Heavyweight in UFC history will be at a Hall of Fame induction.

Former Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is back in the win column after a one-sided decision over Michale Chandler.  As promised Michale Chandler was not his normally reckless self. Unfortunately Oliveira seized control of the contest pushing Chandler back and once in the fence Olivera was teeing off with a mix off jabs, uppercuts, and jump knees. Olivera had nearly three minutes of control time in each of the first four rounds threatening rear naked choke on several occasions. Never one to quit on himself Chandler furiously threw overhands in the final round until Olivera once again took the back.

The hype on Bo Nickal, a life long wrestler whose only in MMA for four years has reached a level where out striking someone who has almost four times as much pro experience was responded with dissatisfaction from most of the crowd. It took Nickal much of the first round to find a way past the big frame and kick heavy offense offered from Paul Craig. Nickal would find his overhand left popping Craig’s head back several times. While he passed the test at 7-0 there’s no rush to have Nickal fighting ranked competition.

Sharp counter striking and a deeper gas tank would see Vivane Araujo get a decision win over Karine Silva.

Mauricio Ruffy battered a near zombie like James Llontop to get his second win in the UFC. Ruffy’s creativity was on display with a no look left hook and some massive fight hands that nearly closed up Llontop’s left eye.

Marcus McGhee will have a spot in the ranking after a decision win over Jonathan Martinez. McGhee’s powerful play n Ching combos kept Martinez on his back foot for the first round and half before his leg kick started to mount a comeback that fell just short.

Ageless wonder Jim Miller collected his 27th win inside the octagon. Miller picked Damon Jackson apart with his boxing and got the tap jumping on a guillotine as Jackson shot in for a takedown. Veteran Heavyweight Marcin Tybura handed Jhonata Diniz his first loss in MMA. The Polish fighter took down the Brazilian forcing a doctor stoppage from his ground and pound.

And welterweight prospect Oban Elliott put the cherry on top of a brilliant effort sitting Bassil Hafez down with a right hand and knocking him out with strikes on the ground.
