BKFC 96: Leigh Cohoon Steps In to Face Sean Weir for UK Light Heavyweight Title
Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship has announced a change to the main event of BKFC 96, scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.
Manchester’s Leigh Cohoon (4-1) steps in to face undefeated Scottish fighter Sean Weir (3-0) for the BKFC UK Light Heavyweight Championship after original challenger Conor Cooke withdrew and relinquished the title.
Weir now has the opportunity to capture the championship in front of his hometown crowd. The Scottish fighter is coming off a first-round knockout of Matty Hodgson in Newcastle in March and will look to extend his perfect BKFC record.
Cohoon enters the matchup with four stoppage victories, all coming inside three rounds. His lone defeat came by decision against rising prospect George Thorpe. After competing in his first two BKFC appearances at light heavyweight before dropping to middleweight for his last three, Cohoon moves back up in weight with a championship opportunity on the line.
The promotion’s first-ever event in Scotland has already generated significant interest, with BKFC announcing that ticket sales have surpassed 9,000 ahead of fight night.
The co-main event features former UFC fighter Stevie Ray, of Glasgow, making his highly anticipated bare-knuckle debut against veteran BKFC competitor Danny Christie (5-3) of Carlisle, England.
Another featured matchup will see former MMA standout Gzim Selmani (1-0), known as “The Albanian Psycho,” face Reece “Big Beefer” Herr (1-1) in a heavyweight clash.
BKFC 96 will stream internationally on the BKFC App. Preliminary action begins at 1 p.m. ET, with the main card scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
