BKFC 96: Sean Weir Delivers Explosive First-Round Knockout in Glasgow Main Event

Glasgow’s own Sean Weir brought the house down with a spectacular first-round knockout in the main event of BKFC 96, stopping Leigh Cohoon in an explosive performance in front of his hometown crowd.

Cohoon stepped in as a short-notice, show-saving replacement earlier in the week, but Weir wasted little time establishing his dominance. He put Cohoon on the canvas three times in under 80 seconds. Left hands in the clinch produced the first knockdown, followed by a long combination as Weir continued pressing forward. The finish came from a series of short right hands in the clinch, bringing a decisive end to the contest and delivering a memorable debut for BKFC in Scotland.

Former BKFC UK Light Heavyweight Champion Danny Christie added another highlight to the night, stopping Scottish MMA legend Stevie Ray in the closing seconds of the second round. Christie did considerable damage to Ray’s right eye in the opening round with a stinging straight right. Just as momentum appeared to be swinging in Ray’s favor, Christie found the opening for a fight-ending right hook.

Gzim Selmani improved to 2-0 in BKFC with a unanimous decision victory over Reece Herr. Selmani scored a knockdown with a jab in the opening round, opening a cut beneath Herr’s left eye. He added another knockdown early in the second with a right cross. From there, Selmani dictated the action over five rounds, controlling the pace and earning the judges’ decision.

Scott Malone had to dig deep after a strong start to earn a decision victory over Kieron Sewell. Malone dropped Sewell in the opening round but found himself on the canvas twice in the second. After five rounds, the judges had the contest even, sending the fighters into a sudden-death round. Malone proved to have the deeper gas tank, pushing the pace and earning the victory on all three scorecards.

In heavyweight action, Barry Boyle worked his way inside against Kadeem Saleem, finding a home for powerful left hooks. Boyle scored a knockdown in the second round before quickly landing the same shot again to secure the knockout.

KJ Metcalfe delivered another impressive stoppage, opening a nasty gash over Duality Torrance’s left brow in the second round. Metcalfe scored a knockdown with a slick right hand while moving backward before trapping Torrance against the ropes and unloading a series of punishing body shots to force the finish.

Cory Chapman needed just one round to put away Lewis Dixon, landing a devastating left hook that left his opponent stiff on the canvas.

Dan Morel showed tremendous resilience after being dropped in the second round by Owen Webster. Morel came storming back in the third, scoring three knockdowns before adding two more in the fourth. A straight right hand provided the finishing touch, capping off an impressive comeback stoppage.

Knox caught fire in the fourth round, producing three knockdowns to bring his contest to a close.

Rhys Pagan also secured a standing TKO after scoring an early knockdown against Danny Moir. Pagan continued to pressure his opponent, trapping Moir against the ropes and unleashing a multi-hook combination that brought the fight to an end.

Charlie Thomson closed out the action with a dominant fourth-round finish over Ian Mulroy. After the two exchanged knockdowns in the opening round, Thomson took control, sending Mulroy to the canvas six times throughout the contest. Thomson scored twice in the second and twice more in the fourth before finally securing the stoppage.

BKFC 96 delivered a memorable night in Glasgow, highlighted by hometown hero Sean Weir’s explosive main-event performance, a statement finish from Danny Christie, and a series of hard-hitting contests that showcased the growing talent and excitement surrounding bare-knuckle boxing in the UK.
