Rounds at the Downs Results, Navarrete & Perez remain unbeaten
School of Hard Knocks promotions hosted a six-fight card, “Rounds at the Down” at the Ruidoso Racetrack.
In the main event Abel Navarrete jabbed to gather his distance. Once in range “Bobo” started to connect with leaping in right hooks. Rodriguez appeared to be out on his feet before a left hook landed for the first knockdown. Navarrete would put Armando Rodriguez on the ropes ending the fight with a succession of right hook straight left combinations to remain undefeated and pick up his fifth win by knockout. Navarrete is now (8-0) while Rodriguez falls to (5-3). In the co-main event Albuquerque’s Abraham Perez worked behind a consistent jab while taping Mexico’s Alejandro Moreno with over hand rights. The allusive footwork and solid defense of “The Hammer” left few openings for the 78-fight vet to land. A one-side unanimous decision see Perez improve to (4-0) while Moreno falls to (25-50-3). In the nights featured fight John Medina ran his unbeaten record to (4-0) defeating the defensively minded John Herrera (5-19-3) by unanimous decision. Manuel Eastman (3-6-1) returned from a 4-year absence to collect his first win as a Power & Glory fighter defeating Force of One’s Rico Urquizo (5-7-2) by unanimous decision. Bloomfield’s Rolyn Nez (1-0) won his pro debut over Dallas’s Garrett Lopez (0-2) on the judges cards. And the card opened with Jackson’s Acoma fighter Marquis Smith (1-0) winning a unanimous decision over Belen’s Derek Perez (2-20-1) on the strength of a late knockdown in the second round.
