Tapia Fight Night Round by Round Recap

Triller Fight Club Presents Tapia Fight Night what an electric night at The Rio Rancho Event Center. It was a great display of New Mexico boxing tonight.  In the Main Event we had Jason Sanchez vs Rafael Reyes with Reyes in the backyard of Sanchez both fighters showed out in a fast paced, high volume battle. In the Co-Main event we had Nico Hernandez vs Gilberto Mendoza another technical and powerful battle with great action it was truly a great bout. It was like we had three main Events with tonight’s fight card also featuring Josh Torres vs Donovan Estrella a heated battle that got the crowd going,. New Mexico packed a huge punch tonight!!!!

Main Card

    •    10 Rds 126 lbs.: Jason Sanchez (16-3) vs. Rafael Reyes (20-16)

Round 1 Sanchez was the quicker fighter landing combos while Reyes has some success with right hands.

Round 2 A couple of hard rights for Reyes land. Sanchez trying to get the momentum going back his way working his jab pressing forward.

Round 3 Knockdown for Sanchez, Reyes coming back landing his own hard shots.  Shaking his hand out it looks he injured his right hand. Reyes doesn’t answer the bell for the fourth round.

    •    8 Rds 112 lbs.: Nico Hernandez (10-0) vs. Gilberto Mendoza (19-14-3)  

Round 1 Hernandez landing effective punches to the body .

Round 2 Hernandez very technical delivering powerful blows to Mendoza.  

Round 3 Mendoza had some success  but Hernandez still came forward with power and technique to get the better end of the round.

Round 4 Mendoza trying to get something going but every time Hernandez finds a hard counter and then starts his own offense landing hard shots working combos and moving his feet.  Hernandez suffers cut over his left eye.

Round 5 Check hook for Hernandez was effective as he was creating angles, Mendoza did land a few of his own.

Round 6 Hernandez sticking his jab over the top with the right is connecting. Mendoza trying to press forward as he takes damage.  

Round 7 Jab and check hook by Hernandez he is sticking Mendoza still.

Round 8 Hernandez came out firing still landing technical strikes listening to his corner. Mendoza was pressing forward but was showing the damage Hernandez inflicted.

    •    8 Rds 147 lbs.: Josh Torres (25-7-2) vs. Donovan Estrella (13-3)

Round 1 Torres pressing forward working his combos.

Round 2 Torres continued to work while Estrella fell to a knee it looked like he injured his shoulder.  The referee called a stop to the bout.

    •    8 Rds 134 lbs.: Abel Mendoza (34-0) vs. Ernesto Guerrero (35-37)

Round 1 Both fighters working combos early staying technical Mendoza had more success landing.
Round 2 Mendoza landing to the head and body. Guerrero was trying to navigate a counter not rally having any success.  

Round 3 Left hooks and straights for Mendoza, Guerrero still trying to find a more effective rhythm.  

Round 4 Speed for Mendoza has him landing first making Guerrero fight off his back foot, also scoring a knockdown. Guerrero is fading.

Round 5 Mendoza had some shots land to the body and up top. Guerrero had couple counters land during some of the exchanges.

Round 6 A big combo by Mendoza lands to start the round, he kept the pressure on Guerrero all round landing powerful punches.  

Round 7 Mendoza started to work the body early, Guerrero trying to maintain using his footwork he tries to make something happen but Mendoza is too fast and strong.  

Round 8 Guerrero throwing a triple jab Mendoza returns fire with powerful combos pressing forward all round. Mendoza also scored a knockdown.

    •    6 Rds 152 lbs.: Jose Luis Sanchez (12–3-1) vs. Reggie Harris Jr. (8–3)

 

Round 1 Sanchez was landing more and harder but Harris Jr. trying to work as well got his points.

Round 2 A great round, two left hooks for Sanchez land. Harris jr. does answers back both fighters exchange hard combos.

Round 3 The bell rings they both press forward hard shots again being traded all round.

Round 4 Trading in the pocket, this round was technical with footwork and head movement. Sanchez and Harris Jr. both throwing volume Harris Jr. landed some power shots.    

Round 5 The pace and volume were high on both side Sanchez had some jabs and hooks that stood out.

Round 6 The final round it was war, Harris jr. landed some hard hooks. Sanchez Trying to work and counter never gave up.  This was a great fight.

Amateur: Nicco Tapia vs Christopher Lucero

An awesome amateur bout Tapia scoring two knockdowns. A great way to kick off the main card. (Winner by Unanimous decision Nicco Tapia.)

 

Prelims 

•  4 Rds 165 lbs.: Jordanne Garcia (4-2-2) vs. Sonya Dreiling (6-3)  

Round 1 Both fighters trying to work their game it’s speed for Garcia, and power for Dreiling.

Round 2 Dreiling tying up and Garcia boxing from inside.

Round 3 Both fighters exchanging in close proximity landing shots on both ends.

Round 4 A close battle we go to the scorecards very even round.

• 4 Rds 130 lbs.: Andres Rey (1-0) vs. Jesus Marin (0-1)

Round 1 Great round both fighters working technical hard boxing, great volume, power and movement.

Round 2 Rey containing Marin getting the better end all around, with the body being his main target.

Round 3 The same as in round 2 Rey landing more and looks to be the fresher fighter.

Round 4 Rey beating Marin to every punch he seems to be ahead still landing power shots all round.

    •    4 Rds.: Lorenzo Benavidez (3-5-2) vs. Jordan Gregory (2-3-3)

Round 1 Both fighters pressing forward Benavidez going low then high with Gregory working from outside

Round 2 Gregory landed with volume Benavidez still working the body with power shots  

Round 3 Benavidez getting the better end of round with some power punches landing and also still working the body.

Round 4 Benavidez comes out with pressure Gregory looks to be fading but has Benavidez on the ropes it goes the distance.
