Tapia Fight Night Weigh-in coverage, 5 fighters miss weight -

Caged Minds was on the scene at The Round House Room 318 in Santa Fe, NM some 55 miles north of the Rio Rancho Event Center where the action will happen for the Tapia Fight Night weigh-in’s.

Prior to the weigh-in a ceremony was held with Governor Michel Lujan Grishim declaring February 24th 2023 New Mexico Boxing Day.

The main event was given the green light after Albuquerque’s Jason Sanchez & Chihuahua native Rafael Reyes came in under the 130 lbs. limit.

The rest of the weigh-ins could be considered choppy waters as four athletes failed to make their originally contracted weights. Gilberto Mendoza who’ll be facing Nico Hernandez in the co-main event and Lorenzo Benavidez who is rematching Jordan Gregory both came in .8 over. Unbeaten Able Mendoza got on the scale 1.2 pounds heavy for his bout with Ernesto Guerrero. And lastly Jose Luis Sanchez was 1.6 over while his opponent Reggie Harris had the biggest miss at 6.4 pounds.

Abel Mendoza and Reggie Harris have both been fined 200$ while Lorenzo Benavidez and Gilberto Mendoza were fined 100$ for the weight misses.

The doors at the Rio Rancho Event Center will open at 4 PM MT on Friday night. An amateur card is slated to start at 5 PM MT. The professional action starts at 6 PM MT, streaming on FITE and the main card Pay Per View on Triller begins at 7 PM MT.
