BKFC Prospect Series Edmonton Results, Masson-Wong Statement in BKFC’s Canadian Debut

The Canadian debut for BKFC takes place at the River Cree Resort & Casino in Edmonton Alberta Canada. The BKFC Prospect Series: Edmonton was headlined by a title eliminator in the Women’s Flyweight division as French Canadian power puncher Jade Masson-Wong battled under-sixed American counter striker Gabrielle Roman.

The best kind of Fight Nights are the ones where the judges aren’t involved.

Jade Masson-Wong established her power punching immediately staggering Gabrielle Roman with a right hand. More right hands in the clinched followed and a right cross on the break laid Roman down. Keeping the pressure on Masson-Wong found a second knockdown from her right man. This time the ref found Roman’s responses to his assessment unsatisfactory stopping the bout at the one-minute mark of the first round. The win, a second in a row for Masson-Wong puts her in line to challenge the winner of Christine Ferea Heather Hardy title fight in May.

Sonny Smith cut Jeremiah Riggs open over his left eye in the opening seconds of the co-main event. Riggs returning from a torn ACL, fighting through the blood dripping in his eyes, nailed Smith with a straight right hand he couldn’t recover from before the ref got to ten.

Stan Surmacz has to overcome costing himself two points as he hit Reuben Roundstone while he was down and to the back of the head. Surmacz, a 12-1 professional boxer, turned his attack to the body. In the third round Surmacz, an orthodox fighter went southpaw and power jab to Roundstone’s left eye ended the bout. Andrew Stuve defeated Jason Kelly’s doctor’s stoppage. Kelly’s aggression worked against him as he walked into a right hand and rolled his ankle falling to the mat. Chad Lacanas trapped Trai Santos on the ropes getting a first-round finish from his body punching. Samuel Polk knocked down Jake Craig four times in 72 seconds, consecutive left hooks sending Craig into a faceplant. Hasan Alghanim defeated Dalton Shtybel by second round knockout, from a vicious combination of hooks.  Tyler Tremblet knockdown Donnie Tice four times on his way to a second-round knockout. Robert DeSharnais utilized right hands in the clinch to stop Desmond Johnson in 34 seconds. And the card’s opening fight was the night’s longest as Matt Socholotiuk defeated Adam De Freitas by third round knockout.
