UFC Vegas 92 Results, Murphy takes Barboza’s Spot by Decision
Welcome to the Featherweight rankings Lerone Murphy. The UFC Apex in Las Vegas hosts Saturday afternoon fights. UFC Vegas 92 is a 11-fight card headlined by a Featherweight bout between Edson Barboza & Leone Murphy.
The main event of the UFC Fight Night event during the day is a showdown between 145 lbs. standouts. One of the most dynamic strikers in UFC history number 12, Edson Barboza takes on unbeaten Englishman Lerone Murphy.
The 32-year-old Englishman put together his best performance under the spotlight of his first headlining opportunity. From the beginning of the fight Murphy was dictating with his jab and it felt like he had a handle on Barbosa’s intent. The victory, while unanimous, didn’t come without a tenuous moment as Barboza nearly put Murphy out with a vicious up kick in the closing seconds of the first round. The next four rounds saw Murphy stick to his gameplan, and it worked like a gem. Pressure the kicker, be active in boxing range, and continue to threaten takedowns. The win propels Murphy from relative unknown toa meaningful player in the division.
Going the distance in his last two fights was a rarity for Khoas Williams who reminded everyone just how big a puncher he is. The co-main event didn’t get out of the first round as Khaos Williams knocked out Carlston Harris. Returning fire from a hammering right hand Williams crumbled Harris with a right hook to the left eye. A clinch heavy battle saw Themba Gorimbo reverse Ramiz Brahimaj’s trip attempts. Five landed takedowns accumulated more than ten minutes of control time. The 33-year-old put his third consecutive win on the board.
Formerly ranked Bantamweight Adrian Yanez halted his two-fight skid by first round knockout. Even though Yanez telegraphed his intentions for a clean counter knockout that didn’t stop it from happing. In middle of a Vinicius Salvador combination Yanez connected with a massive overhand right. Yanez followed down to the canvas putting the finishing touches on his 11th career knockout. For the 1st time in her career Angela Hill claimed victory by submission. The Muay Thai expert finished Luana Pinheiro. A win that will propel Hill in the Strawweight rankings.
