FIT NHB held Battlegrounds 13 on Friday June 7, a night of amateur Boxing and Kickboxing. We all know that it’s hot in New Mexico but with the added heat being brought by the fighters FIT NHB was an inferno of high paced action.

Sergio Gutierrez (FIT NHB) def. Paul Coy (Sigala Taekwondo) by 3 knockdowns/ disqualification when the Sigala coach jumped in the ring mid round.
A night that saw young fighters take a step towards becoming battletested warriors was not without its controversy, in the evenings main event Sergio Gutierrez faced Paul Coy. Coy did what he could to frustrate Gutierrez with a heavy dose of movement and clinching. This persisted through the 1st round and a half before Gutierrez started utilizing an upper cut that would place Coy on the ground once in the 2nd and twice more in the third round; not to mention a glove touching to the mat that should have been counted as another knockdown. Coys’ corner would jump into the ring after the second counted knockdown yelling in protest that all the knockdowns were due to shoves instead of punches; which was incorrect to what I was seeing at ring side. In the amateurs it is a disqualification for the corner to jump in the ring during the bout. The result is yelling from an angry coach and a riled up crowd. Cooler heads did prevail and the main event winner is Sergio Gutierrez; who ends the night still feeling like he had unfinished business. Action, excitement, and entertainment Fit Battleground 13 had it all.
