UFC 161 Evans vs. Henderson Results & Recap

UFC 161

UFC 161 takes place on Saturday June 15, at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Canada. The main event will see a Light Heavyweight showdown when former UFC champion “Suga” Rashada Evans collides with from Pride and Strikeforce champion Dan “Hendo” Henderson.

Bout number 1-Yves Jabouin (18-8) vs. Dustin Pague (11-7) at Bantamweight

RD1 – Jabouin lands a few strikes with a kick to the body being grabbed by Pague who ends up on his back. Jabouin follows to the ground where the fight remains there for the rest of the round. Pague attacks off his back with 5 submission attempts. Jabouin ends round on top landing strikes.

RD2- Pauge trips Jabouin to the ground, Pauge  controls about 2:30 of the round before Jabouin sweeps and takes top control  in Pauge’s guard.

RD3- Jabouin gets Pauge to the ground Pauge continues to attempt submissions off his back. Pague is able to sweep and work his way to the mount before being reversed and ending the fight off his back in a some what triangle attempt.

Bout number 2- Mitch Clarke (9-2) vs. John Maguire (18-5) at Lightweight

RD1-Mitch Clarke controls the majority of the round with a kicking attack that was focused on assaulting Maguire’s front leg. Maguire was ablt to get inside and control the back of Clarke from a standing position but did no damage.

RD2- Clarke starts off with the kick attack again. Maguire catches a kick and takes Clarke down. Maguire stays on top working for a bit before Clarke is able to stand up. Clarke lands a few legs kick before Maguire jumps on Clarke’s back ending the round with back control on the ground.

RD3- The two men exchange before Clarke’s pressure forces Maguire against the fence. Clarke clinches with Maguire and land foot stops and knees. The ref separates and Maguire take Clarke to the ground, has his back with a body triangle locked in, Clarke works Maguire off his back. Maguire end fight land strikes from top position.

Bout number 3- Roland Delorme (8-1) vs. Edwin Figueroa (9-2) at Bantamweight

RD1-Delorme starts off with forward pressure and drags Figueroa to the ground. Delorme transitions and controls the round. Delorme’s biggest move of the round was a body triangle that also had Figueroa’s arm locked up.

RD2- Delorme drags Fig to the ground. Figueroa locks in triangle attempt and is picked up out of it. Delorme goes back to being in control on the ground. As Delorme fries to mount Figueroa gives up his back. Figueroa is able to turn from within the back mount o be on top in full guard landing strikes.  Delorme cage walks and shots for a take down falling and once again having Figueroa’s back as the round ends.

RD3- Delorme drags Figueroa to the ground again taking his back. Figueroa stands up forces Delorme to let go of the back mount. Figueroa throws uppercut and Delorme grabs body lock to score take down.

Bout number 4- Sean Pierson (13-6) vs. Kenny Robertson (12-2) at Welterweight

RD1- Robertson comes out aggressively going forward get hit with a few punches before getting a takedown. Pierson is able to get back to a standing position. Pierson is able to tag Robertson with a few straight lefts before Robertson shoots for takedown. Pierson sprawls and defends. Pierson lands strong combination to end the round.

RD2- Pierson controls the round while the two men are standing with the straight left being the primary weapon. Robertson get a takedown ends round on top landing ground and pound.

RD3- Robertson opens up hits Pierson with a big elbow. Robertson take Pierson to the ground gets the back mount lands ground and pound. Pierson is able to sweep and end the round on top.

Bout number 5-James Krause (19-4) vs. Sam Stout (19-8-1) at Lightweight

RD1- They exchange strikes, the height and distance of Krause throws Stout off. Krause lands head kick that cuts Stout open.

RD-2 Stout lands big left to Krause’s body. Stout uses kicks to get inside quickly. Krause changes levels and completes the take down. Stout fights his way back to his feet. Stout completes a take down and ends the round landing elbows from the top.

RD3- Both men go back and forth with strking. Stout is mixing it up with leg kicks and then hooks to the body and head. Krause is answering backs with teep kicks and jabs. Stout shots for a takedown, Krasue lock up the guillotine and Stout after a bit of a struggle is forced to tap.

Bout number 6-Jake Shields (27-6-1) vs. Tyron Woodley (11-1) at Welterweight

RD1- Woodley pressed forward being he more active striker. Shields clinched Woodley against the cage. In the clinch Woodley lands powerful short punches to the body.

RD2- Woodley lands some big leg kicks. Shields clinches and to this point is 0-11 in takedown attempts. Little shots from within the clinch are exchanged by both men.

RD3- Shields clinches Woodley against the fence lands a few knees before being broken up. This is repeated many times. Woodley lands big spinning back fist. Shields throws a lot, hurts Woodley none.

Bout number 7- Pat Barry (8-5) vs. Shawn Jordan (14-4) at Heavyweight

RD1- Jordan comes forward with a huge blitz landing a left to the body a uppercut head and then with a combination of hooks Barry drops. Jordan finishes the fight with ground and pound.

Bout number 8- Alexis Davis (13-5) vs. Rosi Sexton (13-2) at Bantamweight

RD1-Sexton and Davis come out firing, hitting each other big punches. Davis lands a few knees from the Thia clinch. Sexton tries for a takedown Davis takes Sexton’s back; tries for the armbar and ends up on her back. Davis lock in triangle and Sexton lands huge ground and pound.

RD2- Sexton comes out charging gets Davis against the cage and lands the takedown. Davis using a leg lock attempt sweeps to be in Sexton’s guard. Davis gets to Seton’s back landing big ground and pound that almost ends the fight.

RD3- Davis pushes forward with strikes and takes Sexton to the ground. Davis takes Sexton’s back. Sexton turns into Davis’s guard lands a few punches. Davis is able to with stand and reverse to finish last minute on top.

Bout number 9- Ryan Jimmo (17-2) vs. Igor Pokrajac (25-9) at Light Heavyweight

RD1- Jimmo comes forward looking to land a big right hand. Pokrajac clinches and Jimmo force Pokrajac against the cage. Pokrajac lands a right hand that stuns Jimmo. Round ends in the clinch.

RD2- Pokrajac stalks Jimmo who unloads with a combination dropping Pokrajac. Jimmo  is able to stay on top for the rest of the round and even moves from guard to side control. Jimmo and  Pokrajac have a competitive exchange of punches.

RD3- Pokrajac clinches with Jimmo and Jimmo scores the takedown. Jimmo maintains the top position doing little damage for the majority of the round. After a failed guillotine attempt by Pokrajac the fight works its way back to the feet. Jimmo puts Pokrajac on the cage to end the fight.

Bout number 10- Stipe Miocic (9-1) vs. Roy Nelson (19-7) at Heavyweight

RD1- Miocic uses a lot of movement avoids the power of Nelson. Miocic lands combinations stagers Nelson and firmly controls the pace of the round.

RD2- Miocic is picking apart Nelson with light fast combinations. Nelson looks like 2 fights in 6 weeks is too much. Miocic continues to land 2 and 3 strike combinations and then run out of range, and I mean run.

RD3- Miocic taking full advantage of a speed and foot speed advantage landing and then getting outside. Nelson is chasing and unable to land cleanly. Miocic runs away from Nelson every time Nelson gets in close.

Bout number 11- Rashad Evans (17-3-1) vs. Dan Henderson (29-9) at Light Heavyweight

RD1- For much of the round Evans used the jab and a lot of movement to control the round. Henderson lands a sift jab while Evans was walking in. Henderson had Evans rocked. End rounds stands with both men measuring.

RD2- A lot of pawing back and forth goes on in the round. Evans using a lot of movement and tries takedowns but is unsuccessful, dose land a few jabs. Henderson lands two nice inside elbows before the round ends.

RD3- Evans comes forward and rocks Henderson with a blitz. Evans allows Henderson time to recover. Evans clinches uses pressure clinch striking. Close not exciting fight.
