Shields vs. Maia & Kim vs. Silva for UFC Fight Night 29

Two Welterweight bouts are rumored to be in the works for the yet to be announced UFC Fight Night 29, with Demian Maia (18-4) meeting Jack Shields (28-6-1) and Erick Silva (15-3) facing “The Stun Gun” Dong Hyun Kim (17-2) in the events co-main event.

UFC Fight Night 29 is expected to take place on October 9, at the Gimasio Poliesportivo Jose Correa in Barueri, Bazil; and broadcasted on either Fox Sports 1 or Fox Sports 2.

Since moving from Middleweight, where he earned a title shot to Welterweight, Jiu Jitsu wizard Demian Maia has won 3 fights in a row over Dong Hyun Kim (TKO), Rick Story (SUB), and Jon Fitch (UD). Maia had been scheduled to take on Josh Koscheck at UFC 163 but, Koscheck due to injury was forced to withdraw from the bout; without a suitable replacement for the 5th ranked fighter in the Welterweight division Maia was pulled from the card.

After a failed drug test over turned a decision win over at Middleweight vs. ED Herman, Jake Shields decided to return to the Welterweight division where he was once a title challenger. Back at Welterweight Shields is coming off a split decision win over Tyron Woodley.

Eric Silva showed the ability to rebound after his loss to Jon Fitch by submitting Jason High. In Silva’s other two UFC contests he has quickly knocked out Luis Ramos and was wrongly disqualified for what was called illegal strikes to the back of the head against Carlo Prator.

Since a freak accident on a take down led to a injury an TKO loss to Demian Maia, Don Hyun Kim has won consecutive contest over Paulo Thiago and Siyar Bahadurzada.
