Former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk Officially Retires
The 2nd man to ever hold the UFC Lightweight title, Sean “The Muscle Shark” Sherk (36-4-1) a long time member of the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy recently announced his official retirement.
Sherk now 40 years old, due to a plethora on injuries has not fought since UFC 119 in 2010; when Sherk was awarded controversial decision win over Evan Dunham. In his final 3 contests Sherk was only victorious over Dunham, for a 1-2 mark.
For a part of Sherk’s career competing at Lightweight was not an option as the division had been dissolved. While at Welterweight “The Muscle Shark” earned himself 2 title shots, falling short against Matt Huges and George St. Pierre. All 4 of Sherks career loss’s came by the hands of UFC champions also losing to Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn in a title bout.
Most infamously Sherk will also be remember for testing positive for a banned substance after defeating Hermes Franca at UFC 73.
Sherk holds notable win over Kenny Florian, Karo Parysian (twice), Nick Diaz, Tyson Griffin, and the above mentioned Evan Dunham. “The Muscle Shark” startd his career off with 20 consecutive wins and has 21 wins by stoppage with 8 KO/TKO’s and 13 submissions.
