UFC 170 adds Thompson vs. Whittaker & Assuncao vs. Rivera

A battle of top Bantamweights and Welterweight who prefer to streak are the newest addition to UFC 170.

At Bantamweight Raphael Assuncoa (21-4) will meet Francisco “Cisco” Rivera (10-2) and at Welterweight Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson (8-1) faces TUF “Samshes” winner Robert Whittaker (11-3).

Since dropping to Bantamweight Assuncao has won 5 fights in a row over Johnny Eduardo (UD), Issei Tamura (TKO), Mike Easton (UD), Vaighan Lee (SUB), and TJ Dillashaw (SD).

Rivera is undefeated in his last 6 bouts, including back to back TKO wins over Edwin Figueroa and George Roop.

Thompson has bounced back from being bettered by Matt Brown, with a pair of wins over Nah-Shon Burrell (UD) and Chris Clements (TKO).

Whittaker by unanimous decision defeated Brad Scott to become the TUF “Smashes” winner and followed that up by scoring his 5th career win (T)KO stopping Colton Smith in the 3rd round of their UFC 160 bout. Whittaker will now be looking to bounce back from a split decision loss to Court McGee at UFC Fight Night 27.

UFC 170 takes place on February 22, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada; headlined by “Suga” Rashada Evans vs. Daniel “DC” Cormier.
