UFC 172 Main Event Jones vs. Teixeira
After being thought to happen at UFC 169, UFC 170; Jon “Bones” Jones (19-1) will defend the UFC Light Heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira (22-2) in the main event of UFC 172.
UFC 172 will be on April 26 at the Baltimore Arena, and will be the promotions first trip to Maryland. Fittingly being headlined by Jones who’s brother Arthur was a 2013 super bowl winning member of the Baltimore, Ravens.
Since a disqualification loss to Matt Hamill, Jones has won 10 fights in row; with 8 by stoppage. Jones is coming off his 6th and toughest title defense, winning by unanimous decision over Alexander Gustafsson; at UFC 165. “Bones” has 15 stoppage wins in his career with 9 (T)KO and 6 submissions.
Teixeira a protege of former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell has won 20 consecutive fights. Since joining the UFC Teixeira has defeated Kyle Kingsbury (SUB), Fabio Maldonado (TKO), Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (UD), James Te Huna (SUB), and Rayn Bader (TKO). Teixeira has 13 of 19 stoppage wins by (T)KO.
