Brandon Halsey Challenges Alexander Shelmenko for Middleweight Gold at Bellator 126
The announcement that season 10 Middleweight tournament winner Brandon Halsey (17-9)will get his hard earned shot at taking the gold from Alexander “Storm” Shelmenko (50-8) in the main event bout of Bellator 126 on September 26th, at the Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.
Halsey, is 5-0 in the Bellator cage and defeated Hector Ramirez (TKO), Joe Pacheco (UD), and Brett Cooper (SUB) to win the season 10 Middleweight tournament.
Shelmenko is coming off having his 13 fight win streak ended by being submitted by Tito Ortiz at Bellator 120 in a special Light Heavyweight bout. Since winning the Middleweight title at Bellator 88 the “Storm” has successfully defended the belt 3 times.
The promotion also announced 3 other bouts that will round out the main card.
The co-main event will be the long awaited season 10 Lightweight Tournament final between Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (13-5) and Marcin Held (19-3). Freire on a 3 fight win streak knocked out David Rickles and Derek Campos to make his way to the finals. Held has won 4 fights in a row submitting Rodrigo Correia and Derek Anderson to earn his spot in the finals.
In a Featherweight bout Bubba “The Highlight Kid” Jenkins (7-1) and his 3 fight win streak will welcome XFC International vet Alejanro Villalobos (17-3) of Costa Rica, who’s on 7 fight streak, to the Bellator cage.
3-1 in his last 4 Mike “The Marine” Richman (16-5), coming off consecutive decision losses will make his Bantamweight debut against Apex MMA’s Ed “Wild” West (18-8), who’s also 1-3 in his last 4. Richman has 14 stoppages with a 50% TKO to submission rate,while West has 9 of 10 stoppages by submission.
