Stephen Cervantes Talks about Facing Matt Mazurek this Saturday
Luttrell’s MMA’s undefeated Bantamweight Stephen “Scrappy Doo” Cervantes (3-0) will move up a weight class to take on Legacy FC and Titian FC vet Matt “The Menace” Mazurek (3-3) this Saturday (May 16th), at Rocks Extreme in Killeen, Texas.
Cervantes a talented grappler and explosive athlete won his first two pro bouts by decision. Most recently in the main event of Elven O2 Promotions- ECS One, “Scrappy Doo” got his first pro stoppage win, submitting Brazilian Romoulo Medeiros in under a minute.
Mazurek is 2-2 in his last 4, with knock out wins on either side of losses in the Legacy cage to Julian Shore and Dimitre Ivy. At Titian FC 30 “The Menace” stopped Charles Adkinson in the 2nd round to snap his 2 fight skid.
I asked Cervantes how hard it’s been finding a fight recently and “Well we were ready to fight immediately after my last fight. So It’s been very tough to find a fight. I’ve had 4 opponents drop out of fighting me in the last few months.”
When did taking fights at Featherweight become a possibility?
“Although I prefer to fight at 135 lbs. I’m still big enough to compete with Featherweights. I took this fight on just a few weeks notice, but I’m always ready to fight and I really need to stay active. Scrappy is looking to be in the UFC within 12 months.”
On that how much do you think about staying undefeated?
“It means everything. I need to string together 5 impressive wins within the next year to get where I want to be.”
Tell me about the upcoming fight?
“Mazurek is a crap talker. So I don’t like him much. Not to mention he is fighting me when I’m at the top of my game and I think he is not at the top of his.”
