Jedrzejczyk & Gadelha to Coach TUF 23, Fight at Finale
During the UFC Fight Night 81 main card broadcast on Fox Sports 1, it was announced that the coaches for season 23 of The Ultimate Fighter will be UFC Woman’s Strawweight World Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (11-0) and number 1 contender Claudia Gadelha (13-1).
TUF 23 will feature women’s Straweight and men’s Light Heavyweights.The coaches will meet in the main event of the TUF 23 Finale on July 8th in Las Vegas, Nevada, a night before UFC 200. This will be the 2nd time in the shows history for female coaches and the coaches 1st time with neither coach being from the United States.
Poland’s Jedrzejczyk is a former Muay Tjhia world champion, who’s 5-0 in the octagon, which includes a December 2014 split decision win over Gadelha. Since that win Jedrzejczyk has captured the UFC title with a knock out of Carla Esparza, and defended it against Jessica Penne (tko) and Valerie Letourneau (ud).
Jedrzejczyk at UFC 193 defeated Valerie Letourneau who was a replacement for Claudia Gadelha, who was dealing with a hand injury.
Brazil’s Gadelha is a member of Nova Uniao, who’s a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world champion. Gadelha at UFC 190 rebounded from the loss to Jedrzejczyk, with a unanimous decision win over then women’s MMA rankings, number 1 ranked Strawweight Jessica Aguilar.
