UFC 197 Features Cormier-Jones 2 & Johnson-Cejudo
Two titles will be on the line April 23rd in Las Vegas and one of MMA biggest rivalries will be renewed.
As had been rumored Jon Jones will be challenging Daniel Cormeier (17-1) for the title he never lost, in the main event of UFC 197. Jones last fought at UFC 182 defeating Cormier via unanimous decision. Jones would be involved in a automobile accident, and was subsequently sttripped of the title. Cormier has won 2 in a row submitting Anthony Johnson to win the vacant title at UFC 187 and defending is successfully, with a split decision win over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192.
The night co-main event will see former Olympic Gold medalist, undefeated Henry Cejudo (10-0) challenge Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (23-2-1) for the UFC Flywieght Title. Cejudo is 4-0 in the octagon with decision wins over Dustin Kimura, Chris Cariaso, Chico Camus, and Jussier da Silva.Demetrious Johnson is the only Flyweight champion the UFC has ever had. Johnson is 9-0-1 at 125 lbs. and has successfully defended his title 7 times. Most recently Johnson defeated John Dodson for the 2nd time by unanimous decision at UFC 191. A bout prior Johnson scored the latest stoppage win ever in a UFC title fight submitting Kyoji Horiguchi, via armbar with only 1 second left on the clock.
UFC 197 will be taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
