Pair of Lightweight Bouts sit atop Bellator 219
Taking Place March 29, at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California, the main and co-main events of Bellator 219, will take place at 155 lbs.
The main event will see Bellator staples throwing down, Saad “Assassin” Awad (23-10) vs. Brandon Girtz (15-8). Awad has won 4 of his last 5 including finishes of Zach Freeman & Ryan Couture. The 35-year-old has 18 finishes, 10 knockouts, and 7 submissions. Girtz is 4-4 in his last 8, his last win a first round finish of Luka Jelcic, at Bellator 190 in Italy. The 33-year-old trains in Colorado and has 11 finishes, 3 knockout, 8 submissions.
In co-main event former 2-time, Featherweight champion Daniel Straus (25-6) faces Shane “The War Rhino” Kruchten (12-4). Straus will be back in action after a miraculous recovery, from a motorcycle accident that nearly claimed his life, just 15 months ago. “The War Rinho” has a 75% finishing rate, with two-thirds coming by submission.
One-prelim contest is official for the event, also at 155 lbs. having Darren Smith (15-10) vs. Joshua Jones (8-3).
