Recap with how I saw the night

The night started off with 3-rounds of Flyweight action as JJ Aldrich & Lauren Meuller battled it out on the feet. While Mueller had early success with Pressuring Alrdrich. The tide would turn in the 2nd half of the first round. Aldrich’s counter left would continually damage Mueller in route to the decision win. In middleweight action Marvin Vettori would stalk Andrew Sanchez for 3-rounds throwing his normal haymakers and stuffing all Sanchez’s takedown attempts to win by one-sided decision. Florida native Miguel Baeza made a successful octagon debut knocking Hector Aldana down with low leg kicks and finish the bout with punches on the ground. Marlon Vera picked up his 5th win in a row battering Andre Ewell with knees in the clinch and finishing with strikes on the ground. Number 3 ranked Flyweight Deiveson Figueoredo showed off his BJJ skills catching number 6 ranked Tim Elliott in a guillotine choke after getting in on a takedown. Alex Morono and Max Griffin went three thrilling rounds. A close first rd would lead to a second round where Morono would score three knock downs. In the third round Griffin would score three take down but get very little done, while having to avoid a pair of guillotine chokes and  kimura. The judges decision would go in favor of Morono. On 9-days notice Mike Davis would take advantage of his opportunity and make a statement blasting Thomas Gifford with huge shot for most the three rounds. You can’t question the heart of Thomas Gifford, but the judgement of referee Andrew Glenn, who should have stopped the fight long before the right hand that knocked Gifford out cold. The prelims would close out with Light Heavyweights, Devin Clark against Ryan Spann. Clark would score three take downs in the first round. The second round would see the Clark takdown attempt would lead to a Spann guillotine choke securing the victory and giving “Superman” a 7-fight win streak. The main card would kick with a contrast of styles as the power punching of Eryk Anders would earn the split decision win over Gerald Merrchaert in a all striking affair. The most controversial decision of the card would see Matt Frevola win a split decision over Luis Pena. The first round seemed  to be in favor Pena’s striking and a creative triangle choke attempt . The second round Pena looked to land the more damaging strikes. Frevola would come back in the third landing big overhands mixing in his takedowns to have his best round of the fight. Decorated BJJ practitioners Amanda Ribas & Mackenzie Dern would essentially strike it out for three rounds. Ribas would prove to have the better striking, nailing Dern with jabs and hooks while nullifying all Derns attempts to have the fight take place on the ground. James Vick against Niko Price would end as only a Niko Price fight can. Vick would get Price to the ground and even land a few good strikes before standing over Price and having the heel of an up-kick land to Vick’s jaw and knock him out. Vick would fall on Price who would land 5 more punches before Herb Dean could get in to stop the fight. In the co-main event Cub Swanson would force Kron Gracie into a Boxing match with 4oz gloves. Swanson mix of jabs & hooks both low and high would chip away at Gracie’s gas tank. Not to give up Kron would attempt a flying armbar, and even tried to pulled guard on a trio of occasions, but the 37 fight vet was wise to all those tricks and would win by unanimous decision. The main event Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Michelle Waterson for the most part was fought in the very close quarters of battling in the clinch against the cage. Joanna would draw blood first giving Waterson a nose bleed from elbows. Back at 115 lbs. Joanna looked comfortable being the bigger fighter able to win the pummle battle in the clinch. At long distance we saw glimpses of the striking we’d come accustom to while Joanna was reigning champion, a counter teap kick to Waterson face  sent her across the octagon and was Joanna’s best strike of the night.. It was not all smooth sailing at Waterson would land her own inside elbows and in both the 3rd & 5th rounds got on Joanna back and was close to securing the rear naked choke. The Polish fighter would escape the hasty situations and take the unanimous decision victory. The main event was definitely the fight of the night and it was a case where Michelle Waterson fought very well and Joanna fought great.
