Borg vs. Morales set for Southwest MMA Series XXX
A second women’s, & third professional, bout has been added to Southwest MMA Series XXX; pitting Amanda Borg against Randee Morales.
Both women have a deep passion for competing in combat sports, and have experience in both the ring & the cage. Amanda, who was Lovato but that last name changed to Borg after marrying UFC fighter “The Tazmexican Devil” Ray Borg. She has trained: at the now closed Judgement MMA, Fit NHB, JacksonWink MMA, & Jackson’s Acoma. Morales has trained her MMA game at JacksonWink MMA, Lookouts PFS, and now out of Fit NHB. Also, at House of Pain Boxing in Denver, when focusing on the sweet science.
In 2014, Amanda made her pro debut first in MMA and then in Boxing. Borg return to the ring at the beginning of November in Tucson, AZ. More than five years after that first foray into the ring, Borg fought Briana Sanchez to a draw. Borg now returns to the cage in hunt of her first professional victory. Momma Borg returned to the cage in June after more than a three-year layoff.
When asked about the upcoming fight, and about fighting here at home for the first time in a while, Borg said, “I think it’s going to be a really fun fight” and “it’s going to be fun fighting in front of the NM crowd”.
Morales made her pro debut, this past June, coming out on the wrong end of a majority decision against Kathryn Julia Paorocki. In October, the fighter known as “Shortstack”, got her first Boxing victory defeating Mayra Rios by unanimous decision. More than three-years after her last amateur MMA contest, Randee returned to her roots at SCL 78 (Sparta Combat League) fighting Staci Vega to a majority draw.
Morales is coming into the fight with something to prove, “This is kind of a big fight for me because I was a very loyal JacksonWink fighter since 2013, when I started fighting. I didn’t appreciate the way they treated me when I came back. Now, I’m fighting one of their girls. I just hope she trains hard because I’m stepping into this cage ready to show JacksonWink who they overlooked”. Morales also feels very good about returning to Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino, “My second amateur fight was at Buffalo Thunder, and now my second pro fight will be there as well. Twenty-two is my favorite and lucky number. So, I’m feeling the good energy”.
Southwest MMA Series XXX is set for January 11th at Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino just outside of Santa Fe, NM.
