Southwest MMA Series XXX Recap & Results
Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino hosts Southwest MMA Series XXX an 8-contest martial arts event. The main event a professional mixed martial arts contest set for 170lbs., Aaron “Professor” Perls vs. Roy “Hot Sauce” Saucedo.
Saucedo takes the fight on 96-hour notice replacing Rocky Rosas. Saucedo has fought in 2-years while Perls hasn’t fought in 3-years. “Hot Sauce”
The night started off with a 135lbs. grappling match set for a 10-minute time limit. Austin Lewis jumped on a guillotine choke early. Gillespie escaped and took command of positional dominance. Having the back and seeing the opening Gillespie goes for the armbar. Lewis defends, finding the space to lock up a triangle choke. As Gillespie releases his armbar, Lewis finds a match ending armbar.
The MMA action got started with a light-heavy bout, Bobby Griego from Desert Dynasty versus Kristopher Christian from the UFC gym in El Paso. Christian came out going hard for the take down eating knees in the process. Once on the ground it Griego attacking with an armbar. Reversing position ending the first-round scoring from half guard. Griego took the fight right back to the mat in round two landing damaging ground and pound. Griego took advantage of Christian getting stuck on all fours pounding his way to a finish.
The second MMA bout took place at middleweight with Jackson “The Nightcrawler” Nwokeoma from JacksonWink MMA versus Mark “Hoss” Hussey from United Fit. Hussey quickly closed the distance looking takedown. Nwokemoa defending with balance and slapping upward strikes. Nwokeoma blocks a takedown by holding the cage. Ref Joe Coca stops the action and place the fighters on the mat. Seconds later the bell ring ending the first round. Husey eats some hooks and closes the distance dumping Nwokeoma on the mat with a takedown from the double underhook position. Hussey grinds away the second round in half guard. Round three Hussey takes down Nwokeoma right back down and never giving Nwokema the space to get up. After three round the judges return a unanimous decision in favor of Mark Hussey.
The third MMA bout took place at 115lbs., David “The Prototype” Hudson from Desert Dynasty in Alamogordo, NM versus Esai Dimas from Wild West Martial Arts in Las Cruces, NM. Hudson closes the distance, level changes, scoring an early takedown. Dimas causes a scramble getting settled into half guard. Dimas works back to his feet. Hudson jumps on a guillotine choke. Dimas escapes, Hudson adjusts and gets the tap.
For the next contest we return to the BJJ world as Jesse “The Tornado” Tafoya from Jacksonwink MMA versus Gregory Hassman from Gracie Barra, ABQ. Tafoya the experienced MMA is the aggressor. In half guard goes for but is unable to complete a kimura. Hassman creates a scramble and as he gets to his knees Tafoya jumps on a guillotine forcing the tap.
The fourth MMA bout took place at 150lbs., Nathaniel “Ninja Nate” Torrez from Elevation Boxing & Fitness/ Jackson’s Acoma versus Jordan Gloria from Extreme Fighter in Plainview, TX. Torrez pushing forward right away first attacking with low leg kicks before fighting into the clinch. Gloria word dip his head allowing Torres to sink in and force the tap from a standing guillotine.
The co-main event a women’s 115lbs. contest, Lydia Warren from JacksonWink MMA versus Veronia Garcia from Extreme Fighter in Plainview, TX. Warren pressures Garcia back to the cage shot in for a double, but Garcia defends. They separate to strike and with a right cross Warren seats Garcia on the ground. Warren follows advances to mount striking laying in leather till the red jumps in.
The main event Aaron “Professor” Perls from ANK Santa Fe/ Gracie Barra Santa Fe, veresus Roy “Hoy Sauce” Saucedo from Force of One Martial Arts in Clovis, NM. Saucedo comes out winging right hands, clipping Perls with two of them. Perls pressures his way into the clinch. Scoring a takedown off a single leg. Perls advance to the mount. Saucedo gives up his back and on the second attempt Perls secures the victory by rear naked choke.
