GSP Heading into UFC HOF
During UFC 249 the promotion announced Georges St. Pierre, the former multiple division champion, will be part of the next group inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
St. Pierre’s journey with the UFC began in 2004, at that time he was 5-0. “Rush” would win his first two UFC fights, including a first round TKO of Jay Hieron. After a submission loss to Matt Hughes, “GSP” would go on a five-fight win streak to earn a rematch at the then champion. St. Pierre would TKO Hughes in the 2nd to win hist first world title. “GSP” would relinquish the title in a stunning upset loss to Matt Serra at UFC 74. Two big wins would get St. Pierre back in title contention. “Rush” would get his revenge and the belt back with a second round TKO. Over the next five-year “GSP” would successfully defend the UFC 170 lbs. championship nine times. Before relinquishing the belt in 2013.
One of the biggest stars in Canada, St. Pierre then gave acting a try. Landing roles in Captain American: The Winter Soldier, Kickboxer: Vengeance, & Cartels; working alongside legendary actors Jean Claude Van Dam & Steven Seagal. At some point the spark to fight was lit again.
The Montreal native would return to the Tristar Gym with a new goal in mind. At UFC 217, after four years away from the octagon, “GSP” became UFC middleweight champion by submitting Michael Bisping. The list of multiple division UFC champions includes St. Pierre, Randy Couture, BJ Penn, Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, & Henry Cejudo.
Georges St. Pierre leaves MMA with a 26-2 record and as the greatest welterweight of all time.
