Gilbert Burns forced out of UFC 251
Instead of fighting for the UFC Welterweight Championship next weekend, Gilbert Burns will be battle against COVID-19.
Burns and his toe cornermen, brother Herbert Burns and Coach Greg Jones all tested positive for COVID-19. The team had prepared for UFC 251 in Florida. The positive test happen in Las Vegas which the UFC is using as a hub city to test fighters and staff before boarding the plan heading to Fight Island. At this point the fight is now postponed and is expected to be rescheduled for a later date.
UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman hasn’t left to Fight Island and will be remaining state side.
The new main event of UFC 251 is the featherweight title rematch, Max “Blessed” Halloway attempts to regain the title he lost to Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski seven months ago.
It’s also been announced that PFL vet Maxim Grishin will be replacing Alexander Romanov in facing Marcin Tubura.
UFC 251 takes place on July 11th at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
