Contender Series Season 5 Week 2 Results

The UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the second event of Dana White’s Contender Series 2021. The five-fight card features ten prospects competing to impress the UFC brass in hopes of earning a UFC contract.

The night opened up with a shocker as Chad Anheliger the biggest betting underdog on the crad pulled off a split decision winover Muin Garurov. While Anheliger did get taken down in both the first two rounds he did drop Gafurov with a knee. In the second Anheliger reversed the positioin and in the third kept the fight on the feet. Carlos Vergara put his foot on the gas right out the gate clipping Bruno Korea with a right hook. Korea gets trapped in a front face lock eating repeated knees to the head. A knee to the liver puts Korea down ending the fight inside of a minute. Jose Alday started off strong with big single strikes hunting the body of Saimon Oliveira. Oliveria answered back with his take down in the 2nd and landed a a couple huge left hook in the third to get the split decision win. Chidi Njokuani had to fight through multiple low blows from Mario Sousa in the first round. The second and third rounds saw Njokuani fight into the clinch battering Sousa with knees. Scoring a knock down in the third and finishing with rapid fire elbows. The main event didn’t event last a minute. Thirty seconds in Josh Quinlan hit Logan Urban with a right hook. Over the next seventeen seconds four more right hands would land to end the fight. Quinlan remain unbeaten and keep his hundered perecent finishing rate.

  • Middleweight Bout: Chidi Njokuani (20-7) def. Mario Sousa (12-2) by TKO (ground strikes) 1:35 R3 
  • Bantamweight Bout: Saimon Oliveira (18-3) def. Jose Alday (14-6-1) by (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) split decision 
  • Flyweight Bout: CJ Vergara (9-2-1) def. Bruno Korea (12-4-1) by TKO (strikes) o:41 R1
  • Bantamweight Bout: Chad Anheliger (11-5) def. Muin Gafurov (17-4) by (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) split decision  

This week Dana White awarded contracts to Chad Anheliger, CJ Vergara, Saimon Oliveira, Chidi Njokunai, & Josh Quinlan.
