Former UFC title challenger signs with Bellator
Bellator MMA has added a former Olympian to the ranks of their Women’s Featherweight division.
The newest member of the Bellator roster is National Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee Sara McMann (13-6). A 2004 Silver medalist, McMann has also earned notable honors at the FILA Wrestling World Championships and the Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling Championships.
In 2011 McMann transitioned to MMA. Making huge waves when she beat WMMA pioneers Hitomi Akano & Shayna Baszler in just her fourth & fifth professional fights. The win over Baszler lead right to signing with the UFC. It took just one win for McMann to earn a title shot and showdown with Ronda Rousey. While that fight wouldn’t go McMann’s way, she doses have notable wins over Lauren Murphy, Jessica Eye, and her final UFC victory over Karol Rosa prior to free agency.
With a new promotional home comes a new weight class. McMann has announced she’ll be competing in Bellator’s Women’s Featherweight division. Champion Cris Cyborg hasn’t’ been in the cage since beating Arlene Blencowe in April. But “Cyborg” has stayed active, winning Boxing matches in September & December.
