Gamrot wins Top Ten Lightweight Showdown by TKO

Mateusz Gamrot will be moving up the rankings after injury forces an early end to the UFC Fight Night main event.

The UFC Fight Night from the Apex was headlined by number six ranked lightweight contender Rafael Fiziev against number seven Mateusz Gamrot. Gamrot used Fiziev’s concern with his normally heavy takedown game to create openings to land his right hand in the first round. The fight would come to a sudden halt in the second round as Gamrot would block a right teap kick from his advisory that would stop Fiziev in his tracks, dropping to his back from an injury to the left leg. Which was the stabilizing leg during the kick. Gamrot came in as number seven in the lightweight rankings and leaves with his 2nd UFC main event win and 8th win by knockout overall. In the co-main event Dan Ige found a home for his punches early drawing blood the Bryce Mitchell. An undaunted “Thug Nasty” would overcome a pair of cuts around his swollen right eye to accumulate five takedowns ending the first two rounds in a dominant position, while having Ige in his grasp for most of the third round to win a unanimous decision. Marina Rodriguez made it two for two against Michell Waterson-Gomez. The Muay Thai clinch of Rodriguez was brutally effective in as she nullified the Waterson-Gomez’s takedown attempts with cut causing elbows and hammering knees. Her seventh win by knockout would come from having Waterson-Gomez mounted taking advantage of desperate attempt to it the fight on the ground.  TUF 29 winner Bryan Battle got his second rear naked choke win inside the octagon submitting AJ Fletcher. Battle survived a massive elbow to put Fletcher on his back, softening Fletcher into giving up the submission. Charles Jourdain the fifth submission win of his career. The Canadian fighter forced Ricardo Ramos to shoot after sticking a knee to the body. After escaping the first guillotine choke attempt Ramos found his neck right back in danger, an opportunity Jourdain wouldn’t let pass by. Two of the Bantamweight division’s top prospects battled in the nights featured prelim. Miles Johns won his third in a row defeating Dan Argueta by unanimous decision. Argueta has a big start jumping on Johns back and landing a cracking knee. Johns would find his success by cutting angles and landing damaging hooks.  “The Dirty Bird” Tim means ended a three-fight skid overwhelming power puncher Andre Fialho for a third round TKO. Means had Fialho in trouble after placing a knee across his chin. An undaunted Fialho battled with punches after looking finished to start the second round. A jab cross from Means would stun Fialho with a knee and a succession of hooks would force the ref to jump in. Jabcob Malkoun would ruin a dominate first round crushing Cody Brundage with an illegal elbow to the back of the head for a disqualification. TUF 30 winner Mohammed Usman would show off his growth as a martial artist out striking Jake Collier with a crisp jab and not going for the take till the third round of his decision winning performance. After three years away due to major knee surgery Mizuki Inoue made a successful return to the octagon beating Hannah Goldy by decision. And the card started out with Montserrat Rendon winning her UFC debut over Tamires Vidal on the strength on takedown in the second and third rounds.
