UFC 295 now a Championship Double Header
The UFC plans for their vacant Light-Heavyweight title to be around a waist by the time they’re clearing out of MSG.
UFC president Dana White announced Wednesday night that the co-main event of UFC 295 will see Jiri Prochazka squaring with Alex Pereira for the title he was forced to vacate due to a shoulder injury last December.
Prochaza was just days from defending his title at UFC 282 when he torn the injury occurred. Prior to the injury Prochaza was on an elevator to super stardom having won 13 consecutive fight. The Czech fighter wasted no time making a big first impression knocking out former title challenger’s Volkan Oezdemir & Dominick Reyes. Prochaza captured the ufc title in dramatic fashion capping off a huge comeback with last minute submission of Glover Teixeira.
Pereira came to MMA a decorated kickboxer with championships in two divisions. A resume that included two wins over Israel Adesanya in Kickboxing would see the Brazil striker rise to title contender after only six wins in MMA. Last November Pereira stopped Adesanya to win the UFC title. A decision win over former champion Jan Blachowicz positioned “Potan” to have an opportunity to become the ninth two division champion in company history.
UFC 295 will emanate from Madison Square Garden in New York on November 11th. The main event will see Jon “Bones” Jones defend the UFC Heavyweight title against former champion Stipe Miocic.
